A new special event, called Park Palooza, will offer a day filled with activities for all ages from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Shawnee Mission Park to thank patrons of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District for their support and patronage.
The free, first-ever Park Palooza will take place at The Theatre in the Park (TTIP) complex, featuring music, entertainment, food trucks and lots of fun. The entrance to TTIP is at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee, just two blocks north of the main entrance to Shawnee Mission Park.
The event will showcase the various JCPRD departments and facilities presenting a wide assortment of family-friendly activities, including: Children’s Services, 50 Plus, Fine and Performing Arts, Corporate and Community Wellness, Kansas City Corporate Challenge, Johnson County Park Police, the Johnson County Museum, Sports and Facilities, Ernie Miller Nature Center and TimberRidge Adventure Center.
There will be additional departments from Johnson County Government, including Health and Environment and the County Manager’s Office.
Other activities at Park Palooza will feature interactive children’s performances, colorful and giant kites by the Kansas City Kite Club and live entertainment from popular Beatles tribute band Liverpool as well as local favorite Victor & Penny and their Loose Change Orchestra. Children’s performers, including Mr. Stinky Feet, H3TV and Drum Safari, will fill The Pavilion at TTIP with plenty of kid-friendly fun.
Park Palooza is being loosely modeled after JCPRD’s Celebrate 60 event in September 2015, also at TTIP, and may become an annual event in Johnson County.
