Johnson County leaders gathered Tuesday, Nov. 28 for the official groundbreaking of the new library at the Lenexa City Center, near 87th and Renner Boulevard. The new two-story branch is set to open in mid-2019 and will replace the Lackman facility built in 1986.
The library will benefit from being a part of the Lenexa Civic Center complex and surrounding City Center district with shared parking and access to shared facilities for community events.
The design includes approximately 40,000 total square free of programs on two levels with a two-story connecting gallery space outside the Library for extended hour services. A drive-up window with automated conveyance is planned for the main level of the garage.
The new Lenexa library is the second new library currently in the works. The new Monticello branch in Shawnee near Shawnee Mission Parkway and K-7 will be completed in mid-2018.
