Safe Kids Johnson County offers free car seat safety check-ups

Child Passenger Safety Seat Check Up Event on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at McCarthy Chevrolet located at 675 N. Rawhide in Olathe.

No appointment needed. First come, first checked. Seat checks are done inside the Service Department.

Trained car seat safety specialists will examine child car seats for proper use, installation, age/size appropriateness and will alert parents to any recalled products at this event. Safety checks take approximately 30 minutes per seat. The child must be present unless it is an expectant parent. This is a great way for parents and caregivers to make sure their children are buckled up right.

Of those kids who are buckled up, three out of four are not restrained properly or sit in a seat that is incorrectly installed. Child car seats are extremely effective when correctly used and installed, reducing the risk of death by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.

Safe Kids Johnson County, Pilot Club of Shawnee Mission, Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics and McCarthy Chevrolet are co-sponsoring these lifesaving safety checks.
