Johnson County Citizens Academy


Purpose: The County Manager’s Office seeks to: (1) enhance citizen knowledge of county operations and services (2) encourage a unified community identity and, (3) increase participation in Johnson County boards, advisory councils, and commissions. 

Description: Johnson County residents recognize this community is a great place to work, live and raise a family. The Johnson County Citizens Academy (CAP) allows opportunities for community-minded individuals to discover what makes our high quality of life possible through behind the scene tours, hands-on activities, and conversations with county staff. Come visit with commissioners, explore the county budget, tour corrections facilities and try out a fire hose! Upon completion, graduates will receive a certificate and get connected to the growing network of academy alumni.

Dates: TBD the Spring 2018 program dates. There will be 10 classes that typically run from 6-9 PM.

Who May Apply: Any employee or resident of Johnson County 

How to Apply: The Citizens Academy online application remains available for completion on an on-going basis. Deadline to apply for the Spring Academy is January 16th. Please click the APPLY for the Citizens Academy link to submit the online application.

Selection: All applications submitted before the deadline will be considered for selection in the upcoming academy. If you apply after the deadline for an academy, your application will be kept on file and included in the selection pool for the next academy. We endeavor to notify each participant if they have been selected to participate in the upcoming academy or if they remain in the selection pool.

Applications Status: Please feel free to contact the County Manager's office to inquire about your application status and submit multiple applications if any information has changed.

Program Growth: At this time, the academy only supports 40 participants in each class. We endeavor to serve each citizen who is interested in participating. We appreciate your patience as the program develops.
