Life Enrichment

JCDS Community Services Program

Life Enrichment (also known as Community Services) offer individuals who would prefer not to engage in paid work for the entire day, the opportunity to enjoy a more laid-back environment. The program schedules daily recreational and educational opportunities to the participants; however, the participants choose their level of participation.

Offered activities include, but are not limited to outings; board/card games; movies; arts & crafts; exercise and much more.  Again, each individual determines their level of participation.  In a nutshell, our goal is to ensure that the participants end their day happy, healthy and excited to return tomorrow.

Volunteer Services

Volunteer Services is a branch of the Life Enrichment program.  There we provide opportunities for individuals to donate their time, energy, and creativity to engage and make connections by volunteering in their communities.  Our engagement in the community benefits the people and the organizations we connect with.

Examples of organizations we interact with include:

  • Meals on Wheels
  • Stroke Foundation
  • KU Pediatrics
  • KC Hospice House
  • Johnson County Library
  • Shawnee Gardens
  • Homestead Assisted Living
  • Head Start
  • DaVita Dialysis
  • Unleashed Pet Rescue

We are always open to NEW opportunities!

Through a variety of person-centered activities our program participants are empowered to strive for greater independence and personal growth.

The overwhelmingly positive response we receive from the community is a huge part of how the program opens doors for those we support and lets people in the community see what we have to offer.

Looking at an individual's strengths with a person-centered approach, our program also offers individuals served the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that benefit the life experiences of the participants and the volunteer sites that we serve.

This side of our program has an emphasis of assisting individuals served in understanding and practicing their communication skills and participating in health and wellness activities within their communities.

JCDS Kindness Rock Project

Kindness Rock Project

The Kindness Rock Project is a collaboration between Johnson County Developmental Supports and Olathe Parks and Recreation Department to spread a little joy and positivity in the world through one-of-a-kind painted rocks with images or positive quotes.

Please feel free to take one when you need one, share one with a friend who needs a smile, or leave one you have made for another to find. You can also take one and hide it anywhere in the world to spread a little kindness. The mission of this project is that one message, at just the right moment, can change someone's entire day, outlook, or life.

The rock garden is located in front of the Olathe Community Center at 1205 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061 just to the right of the entrance.
