Solid Waste Management Committee

The Solid Waste Management Committee is responsible for the preparation and oversight of a Solid Waste Management Plan. The Plan provides for the safe and environmentally sound management of solid waste within the county's boundaries and serves all solid waste generators within the county. The Solid Waste Management Committee meets bi-monthly to discuss solid waste issues and oversee the Solid Waste Plan in order to plan for long term issues in solid waste.

Meetings

Meetings will be held according to the posted schedule, starting at 6 p.m. with a light dinner, followed by the formal meeting at 6:30 p.m. Meetings will take place at the Sunset Drive Office Building located at 11811 S. Sunset Dr. in Olathe, unless otherwise noted.

Trent Thompson, Solid Waste Program manager with Johnson County Department of Health and Environment gave a tour of the new Household Waste Collection and Reuse Facility that is located in Overland Park.

Tronnie Blair, Waste Management Material Recovery Facility (MRF) manager presented on the state of the Waste Management MRF, upgrades that Waste Management is completing, and ways that we can better educate the public on recycling.

Rody Taylor with KC Disposal lead a discussion on construction and demolition recycling and a new facility that he is building in Lee's Summit to help recycle construction and demolition waste.
