The Central Booking facility in Olathe originally opened in August of 1988 as a state-of-the-art facility utilizing the then new direct supervision method of inmate management by placing deputies inside the housing units having direct interaction with the inmates. 

Following the Principles of Direct Supervision, this method has become the norm in detention facilities throughout the country successfully reducing vandalism, assaults and other crimes from within the facilities. 

A variety of programs and services are offered to include substance abuse classes, life coping skills and religious programs. The new reentry program focused on sentenced inmates preparing for release back into the community aids participants in adapting back to life within the community by providing cognitive therapy groups, substance abuse treatment, family therapy and assistance in obtaining employment.
