Donate yarn to kids in need

JCPRD’s 50-Plus Program, Hats from the Heart knitting group, is sponsoring a yarn drive Dec. 13 through 17 to gather donations of yarn to knit hats and distribute year-round to local kids in need. On average, 500 hats are knitted each year!

Donations can be dropped off in marked boxes decorated with Christmas wrapping paper at the following locations:

  • Matt Ross-50 Plus Department
  • Meadowbrook Park Club House
  • Roeland Park Community Center*
  • New Century Field House

Interested in knitting for this great cause? Join Hats from the Heart! All you need are knitting needles to join this generous group of individuals. Each Tuesday, you’ll put your knitting skills to use while creating warm hats for kids in need. It’s free to participate and you can join anytime. The group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday at the Roeland Park Community Center. Call Lisa Eagle, 50 plus Coordinator, at 913-826-3161 for more information.

*Yarn is accepted at the Roeland Park Community Center all year long.
