Election Day is Nov. 2

Voting on Election Day

Election Day for the local general election is tomorrow, Nov. 2 in Johnson County. Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must cast their vote at their assigned polling place.

City, school district, community college, water district, and drainage district offices are on the ballot.

You can find your polling place and see your sample ballot at voter.jocoelection.org.

Returning Mail Ballots

Only 43% of the ballots mailed for the local general election have been returned. Voted ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. tomorrow.

The Election Office recommends returning voted ballots to any polling place or any of eight ballot drop boxes around the county. A list of ballot drop boxes is available here.

Voted ballots can also be returned by mail, but they must be postmarked by 7 p.m. tomorrow and received by Friday, Nov. 5.

Reporting Election Results

The first unofficial election results will be released at approximately 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and will include votes cast at eight advance voting locations and mail ballots returned by Election Day.

As votes cast at Election Day polling places are returned and tabulated, the unofficial results will be updated periodically until all precincts are reporting.

When updates to the unofficial results are available, they will be posted to the Election Office’s website.

Kansas law allows mail ballots postmarked on Election Day to be counted through Friday, Nov. 5. Mail ballots returned to polling places or ballot drop boxes by 7 p.m. tomorrow will also be counted after Election Day.

Additional updates to the unofficial results will be released on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings around 5 p.m.

Provisional ballots will be reviewed and counted at the canvass for the election, which begins on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. at the Election Office (2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe). The results will be certified when the canvass reconvenes at 4 p.m. that same day. The canvass is open to the public. Official final results will be released after the canvass.
