Johnson County Square "pop-up" meetings set

When you think of a new Johnson County Square, what comes to mind? What would you, your family and/or friends like to enjoy there?

Johnson County, in coordination with the city of Olathe and a steering committee of community members, is kicking off the Johnson County Square project to gather feedback and refine ideas. This month, we are holding a series of “pop-up” meetings at local events to collect comments. The public input opportunities are:

  • Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Overland Park Fall Festival, 7950 Marty, Overland Park, KS 66204

Construction is underway on Johnson County’s new 28-courtroom courthouse located at the corner of Kansas Avenue and Santa Fe Street in downtown Olathe. It is anticipated to be completed during 2020. Thereafter, activities from the existing courthouse will be moved to the new building and the old courthouse will be demolished. That will create a new space known as the “County Square.”

To ensure it reflects area needs and interests, the county and a new steering committee will consider public feedback to develop programming concepts that include activities the public could enjoy in the new space.
