Child care hotline available, state regulation reminder

It is essential that children are placed in licensed child care facilities rather than “pop-up” child care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of regulating child care facilities is to reduce the risk of predictable harm to children while in out of home settings. Public regulation represents a basic level of protection for all children in our county. Licensed child care providers receive state mandated health & safety training, regular facility inspections, and knowledge of KDHE child care regulations.

Any individual providing childcare out of their own home for more than two unrelated children for more than a combined 20 hours a week is required to be licensed. Individuals caring for children in the child’s home do not require a license as long as only children of that household are cared for.

Call the Child Care Licensing COVID-19 Hotline at 913-477-8361 during business hours.
