Governor Laura Kelly went before the State Finance Council today, Sept. 11, to discuss the upcoming State Disaster Declaration deadline. The current declaration expires Sept. 15. The extension request was approved.
Highlights from the briefing include:
- Some council members requested additional language to the original declaration to assure the business community that there would be no further shut down of businesses. The Governor advised that this is already addressed in statute, and shared that there is no intent to issue another stay-at-home order.
- After some debate, the council approved the declaration extension with added language about the Governor's intent not to shut down businesses.
- The new order will extend the existing order 30 days, to Oct. 15.
