Outreach Nurses provide vaccine to homebound residents
April 26, 2021
Making sure adults over age 65 are vaccinated for COVID-19 has always been a priority for the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment. Seniors living in long-term care facilities were among the first to receive the vaccine when it became available last December. As of April 14, more than 80% of adults over age 65 in Johnson County have received their first dose of the vaccine.
For some seniors, getting to the county’s vaccination site, a doctor’s office or a pharmacy for a COVID-19 vaccine isn’t possible due to a medical condition, disability or severe mobility issues. JCDHE’s Outreach Nurse program is filling in the gap.
Homebound senior adults who live in Johnson County or their caregivers can request to have an Outreach Nurse stop by their home to give a COVID-19 vaccine by sending an email to jcdhe@jocogov.org. If internet access is not available, call 913-715-2819. A registered nurse will contact the individual and arrange a date and time to stop by and give the vaccine at no charge to the homebound individual. Appointments are scheduled in the order received and based on vaccine availability.
Senior adults who are not able to get vaccinated due to transportation issues can call 913-715-2819 to arrange for transportation to the vaccination site.
More information about JCDHE’s Outreach Nurse Home Visiting Program is available on the Johnson County website.
