Highlight of an experience or memory from WWII: Purple Heart and Bronze Star, After serving several months in the cold of Germany, regiment received new, warm winter coats. All the guys were ecstatic as their uniforms and coats were torn and filthy and not as warm after being wet so many times. After putting his new coat on, promptly had to crawl under barbed wire to lay some line. Coat got caught on the wire and ripped. With no warning, tears came to my eyes and had to stop just long enough to have a short cry. Couldn’t help myself. Was so upset for tearing the new coat.
