Branch: British Army’s Royal Signal Corps
Rank: Private First Class
Duty: Wireless operator/Hollorith operator
Highlight of an experience or memory from WWII: At age 16 ½, I talked my parents into signing paper (to enter military service). My mother was not happy, but my father, a WWI soldier, was proud of me. A person had to be 17 ½, so I lied about my age. I loved my time in the army, learned a trade, felt patriotic and did my duty to king and country.
While stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland, I met Marion Curtis Keithley, an American from Sedalia, Missouri, in 1943. He was attached to the Royal Air Navy. We were married the following year. In 1945, Marion returned home after 4 ½ years, and I was a British war bride. We were married 41 years until his death in 1985.
