If my child has an elevated blood lead result, what are the next steps?

The healthcare provider will notify JCDHE of the elevated blood level. JCDHE will call the child’s parent/guardian and ask about the child’s environmental exposures.

JCDHE may recommend a home assessment to determine the source of lead exposure. This assessment is done in conjunction with Children’s Mercy Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) at no cost to the parent/guardian.

JCDHE will maintain contact with the healthcare provider to ensure appropriate follow-up and monitoring is done based on CDC’s case management guidelines
