One Health event showcases collaborative research approach to the complex interrelationships between human, animal and environmental health

A comprehensive approach is accelerating research and breakthroughs in human, animal and environmental health in the region. The community is invited to celebrate and learn more about this approach at Kansas City One Health Day, a free event from 4-6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at K-State Olathe.

Kansas City One Health Day stems from a partnership with K-State Olathe, the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute and BioKansas. The four groups work together to promote and advance bioscience research and discovery in Greater Kansas City, which is home to more than 240 life science companies with approximately 30,000 employees. The region's scientists, companies and institutions regularly collaborate on life science research, helping further position Greater Kansas City as a One Health national leader.

The event begins with networking and spotlights of prominent high school, undergraduate and graduate students who are conducting One Health-related research. Students have the opportunity to discuss their research during a poster session and to receive an award.

Wayne Carter, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, will provide attendees with an overview of One Health. .

The evening also features a discussion panel comprised of professionals working in the human, animal and environmental health sectors. Looking at how to attack cancer using a One Health approach, panelists will discuss the impact of One Health on humans, animals and the environment; the barriers and opportunities for solutions through a One Health approach; collaboration and examples of current work; and more.
