Enrollment Climbs Nearly 19% in JCERT-Supported Graduate Programs at KU Edwards Campus
Year-over-year enrollment figures for JCERT-supported programs demonstrate the area’s demand for an educated, skilled workforce.

The latest KU Edwards Campus (KUEC) enrollment news reveals an 18.5% year-over-year increase in graduate degree and certificate programs supported by the Johnson County Education Research Triangle (JCERT). Enrollment figures speak to the area’s demand for an educated, skilled workforce.
These programs and their corresponding enrollment growth from fall 2019 to fall 2020 include:
- Professional Science Master’s and certificates in environmental assessment and environmental geology: 68%
- Master’s in project management: 32.3%
- Master’s in applied behavioral science/applied behavioral analysis certificate: 34.5%
- Bachelor’s in biotechnology: 11.2%
- Master’s in civil engineering: 8.3%
“JCERT’s support is critical in helping us provide relevant programming, building a talent pipeline for local employers and advancing our students’ careers,” said Stuart Day, dean of the KU Edwards Campus and School of Professional Studies.
A KU presence in Kansas City for nearly 30 years, the KU Edwards Campus serves more than 2,000 nontraditional and transfer students with flexible, career-focused education, including in-person, online and hybrid course options. For example, nearly all of KUEC’s students have jobs, and:
- More than 70% are over the age of 25.
- Almost 40% work full-time.
- More than one-third are parents of children under 18.
- One-quarter are first-generation college students.
- More than a quarter self-report as a member of a minority group.
KUEC’s MetroKC rate provides in-state-equivalent tuition rates to all students across the metro, and its innovative transfer pathways offer area high school and community college students streamlined access to a four-year degree.
“Throughout the trials of 2020, we have been thrilled to continue an upward trajectory of education provided to the Kansas City area and beyond as we support our amazing students in achieving their goals,” Day said.
