KU Edwards Campus Introduces Kansas’ First Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree
July 29, 2022
The University of Kansas, with support from the Johnson County Education Research Triangle (JCERT), is launching a new online Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) degree in Fall 2022, giving students with an associate’s degree or equivalent hours the chance to maximize their earned college credits from other higher education institutions and earn a KU degree.
“There are no other in-state options for students to pursue a BPS degree,” said Stuart Day, dean of KU Edwards Campus and School of Professional Studies. “The program at the KU Edwards Campus is distinguished by its close connections to area community college partners like Johnson County Community College and Kansas City Kansas Community College.”
Offered through KU’s School of Professional Studies, the online program prepares students with highly valued and relevant skills in their chosen career path by offering a customizable, interdisciplinary and transfer-friendly curriculum.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, management occupations are projected to grow 9% from 2020 to 2030, making up more than 906,000 new jobs nationally in a wide variety of sectors.
Locally, Day believes the BPS degree addresses the growing need for workforce-ready skills in the Kansas City area.
“The BPS program focuses on preparing students with professional and relevant skills to ensure they are job ready upon program completion,” said Day.
