Having just assumed her duties with Johnson County Government on May 17 as County Advisor, Judge Thomas Kelly Ryan of the 10th Judicial District Court administered the oath for Peggy Trent to practice law in the state of Kansas as approved by the Kansas Supreme Court.
Trent will now submit documentation to the Kansas Supreme Court to finalize this process. Upon receipt of documentation by the Kansas Supreme Court, she will be a licensed practicing attorney in Kansas and will officially transition into the chief counsel/director of Legal Services job title for Johnson County.
The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved the hiring of Trent on April 29 and she transitioned to the position, first as county advisor, pending Kansas licensure. The position was vacated by Don Jarrett on March 20, 2020, upon his retirement and had been filled by Cindy Dunham, deputy director of Legal Services, since March 21, 2020, as the interim chief counsel/director of Legal Services.
