Weather forecast adversely affects Johnson County’s Veterans Day event, Nov. 11

A forecast of below freezing temperatures, wind chills in the mid-teens, and the possibility of snow flurries on Monday, Nov. 11, were the reasons that Ed Eilert, chairman of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners, announced today that the county’s annual Veterans Day event is cancelled.

“Regretfully, the weather will prevent us from holding our traditional Veterans Day ceremonies on Monday,” Eilert said. “There are young children who were planning to perform at the event, and many of the attendees will likely be of an advanced age. In light of our concern for everyone’s safety, we will cancel this year’s event.

“I want to extend special thanks to staff members, Gerald Hay, Penny Pearson and Jody Hanson who have spent many hours putting together a wonderful program this year that was to honor our special guests, women veterans.”

Eilert introduced a video produced by staff videographer, Eric Schultz, which showcased four women who were to be present at Monday’s event. The video can be viewed on the county’s homepage.

“We thank all veterans for their service and look forward to continuing our annual Veterans Day event next year,” Eilert said.
