Mother’s Day is just around the corner and Johnson County Department of Health and Environment says getting the coronavirus vaccine is the perfect gift for Mom this year. The campaign, “Do it for Mom,” reminds the public that mothers might like nothing better than knowing that their children are healthy by making the choice to be vaccinated, suggesting that this year, moms will like this gift even better than a bouquet of roses. Other campaign messages include reminders that mothers who haven’t yet been vaccinated should give themselves the gift of good health, as well as information that vaccines are safe and important for pregnant women about to become a new mom.
“COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate based on age and people of all ages can have severe illness or long-lasting effects,” said Elizabeth Holzschuh, JCDHE director of epidemiology. “It was important for me to get vaccinated to not only protect my mom and mother-in-law, but also to protect myself and my immediate family. I want to make sure that I am able to be my healthiest self for my child.”
This week at JCDHE’s COVID-19 vaccination clinics (days and hours below), a special sticker will be available as well as campaign signs for selfie opportunities post vaccine. Appointments are still available for this week.
JCDHE offers walk-in hours for those eligible at the Lenexa vaccination site (15550 W. 108th St.) on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 4-5) from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday (May 6) from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Appointments can be made at jocogov.org/covidvaccine.
