The Theatre in the Park, Johnson County Park & Recreation District's premier outdoor theatre, opened in 1969. Today The Theatre in the Park, which is located on 10 acres in the northeast corner of Shawnee Mission Park, continues to have summer traditions that have entertained audiences for more than 40 years.

Each summer, The Theatre in the Park presents five popular Broadway-style musicals at an affordable price.

The Theatre provides creative challenges for hundreds of performers (actors, orchestra, crew) as well as employment opportunities for area residents. The Theatre in the Park has won numerous awards and accolades, including "Best in Business" by Ingram's Magazine.
