Highlight of an experience or memory from WWII: He enlisted in September 1943 and was with the Marine Torpedo Bombing Squadron No. 242. On March 24, 1945, he was stationed on Tinian (Mariana Islands). On May 24,1945, he transferred to Iwo Jima, then back to Tinian Island on June 23,1945. The Enola Gay departed from Tinian to drop the bomb on Hiroshima Aug. 6, 1945. On Nov. 1, 1945, he was transferred to Guam. On March 16, 1946, he was headed toward home via USS Wakefield. He was a long time resident of Merriam and is currently living, with his wife in Shawnee.
