BOCC Agenda for June 13, 2024

Final development plan for building addition at AirCenter

Approved a request from David Eskov, applicant, and Johnson County Airport, landowner, for a final development plan for construction of an addition to the existing office and maintenance building for New Century Air Service, on 3.32 acres, on property zoned PEC3, Planned Light Industrial Park District, located at 2 Aero Plaza at the New Century AirCenter. Vote: Passed 7-0.

Contract for project at Sheriff Fleet Building in Olathe

Authorized a contract with RoofConnect Logistics, Inc. for the Sheriff Fleet Roof Restore & Water Distribution project at the Sheriff Fleet Building, 15755 US-169 Hwy, Olathe, for an amount not to exceed $334,761.97. Vote: Passed 7-0.

MOU granting tactical paramedics a special deputy commission

Authorized a Memorandum of Understanding with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office granting tactical paramedics a special deputy commission from the Sheriff's Office, exclusively applicable during tactical callouts and training. Vote: Passed 7-0.

Site access agreement, contract amendment for new fire station

Approved a site access agreement with Sunflower Redevelopment LLC and authorizing the Construction Manager at Risk Guaranteed Maximum Price contract amendment with McCown Gordon Construction, LLC for the new Sunflower Fire Station 13 in an amount of $14,014,710 for a total contract amount not to exceed $14,044,710, subject to the execution of the site access agreement. Vote: Passed 5-2.

Board hears video message about Juneteenth event

In celebration of the upcoming Juneteenth event next week, we currently have a social media campaign where community members speak about the meaning of Juneteenth and wanted to share a video message from our inaugural event’s keynote speaker, Virginia Sewing, and this year’s keynote speaker, Glenn North (youtube.com). Johnson County Government’s third annual Juneteenth celebration will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Lenexa Civic Campus Commons (17101 W. 87th St.). Please visit jocogov.org/juneteenth to learn more about the importance of Juneteenth and the various ways to honor the day throughout the county and KC Metro. Johnson County offices will be closed on June 19 in observance of the holiday.

Erin Winn joins CMO staff

The county manager also introduced Erin Winn as a new employee in the CMO. She will serve as governmental relations coordinator.

Committee of the Whole Meeting (Kuhlman & World Cup) on June 13, 2024

The Board met as a Committee of the Whole to discuss possible use of  Community Support Funds to discuss the Kuhlman Property and World Cup.

Motion was made to use $385,000 in Community Support Funds for removal and remediation of the final water storage pool at the Kuhlman site and direct staff to study and prepare a plan for environmental restoration, possible funding resources and future use of the property. Vote: Passed 6-1.

Motion was made to set aside $1.5 million in Community Support Funds as Johnson County’s investment in KC2026, the regional non-profit entity formed to serve as the Local Host Committee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Vote: Passed 5-2.

IFB # 2024-035. Consider authorizing a contract with American Road Maintenance, for the application of an emulsified asphalt seal coat on Runway 04-22 at the New Century AirCenter, in an amount not to exceed $380,690.

Creation of ad-hoc committee on BOCC salaries

Resolution No. 032-24. Consider the creation of the Ad-hoc Resident Committee on Board of County Commissioner Salaries to study and make recommendations regarding the salaries and process of salary adjustments of the Board of County Commissioners.
