BOCC Agenda for May 2, 2024

Reimbursement request for 2024 Presidential Preference Primary expenses

Requested reimbursement of county’s direct expenses for the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary election. Consent Agenda Vote: Passed 7-0.

Multiple contracts for groundskeeping services

Authorized term-and-supply contracts with multiple firms for the purchase of countywide groundskeeping services, in an annual aggregate amount not to exceed $550,000 for a period of 1-year, with the option to renew for four additional 1-year periods. Vote: Passed 7-0.

Submittal of DRAFT updated Johnson County Sanitation Code

Approved the DRAFT updated Johnson County Sanitary Code for submission to the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for review and approval. Vote: Passed 7-0.

Officials cut ribbon at new Shawnee MED-ACT facility

Officials from Johnson County and the City of Shawnee came together Tuesday, April30, to share some good news with the public at a ribbon cutting for a new Johnson County MED-ACT station in Shawnee. The new station, located near Midland Drive and Renner Road, is an expansion of services to area residents. By bringing it into service, response times are expected to reduce in this part of the county, which affects more than 70,000 people. The new stand-alone facility is expected to serve as a prototype for future MED-ACT stations.

Johnson County Severe Weather Preparation

Johnson County residents face potential dangers from thunderstorms, floods and tornadoes this season. To prioritize your health and safety during emergencies, the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment emphasizes personal preparedness and provides helpful information and advice online with Johnson County’s Severe Weather Guide at jocogov.org/severe-weather-guide.

Housing Services shares 2023 Annual Report

For the first time, Housing Services has prepared an annual report for 2023. The report covers the achievements of the Johnson County Housing Authority, Minor Home Rehabilitation program and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program grant in 2023. It also covers the federal funding that supports the programs to benefit our community. The report is also on our website.

Olathe plans summer events in the County Square

The City of Olathe has been busy planning summer events in the County Square with the first event occurring Friday, May 3. A list of events includes music, fitness, plays, shopping, movies, arts and cars. The event on Friday will be the Olathe Cultural Fest by the Olathe School District. Rounding out May will be a Sip & Shop, Olathe Live! Dueling Pianos and the First Fourth Friday event hosted by the Olathe Chamber.

Consider approving the appointment of Jennifer Hrabe – Sixth District representative to the Library Board through April 30, 2028.

Consider approving the appointment of Chrysalyn Huff – Seventh District representative to the Library Board through April 30, 2028.

Contract for bad debt collection services

Request for Proposal No. 2023-079. Consider authorizing a contract with Account Resolution Corporation for bad debt collection services in an amount not to exceed $350,000 for a period of one year with the option to renew for four additional 1-year periods.

Contracts for on-call electrical services

IFB # 2024-026. Consider authorizing contracts with Alpha Energy and Electric Inc., Core Electric, P1 Service Inc., Teague Electric Construction Inc. and Vazquez Commercial Contracting, LLC for on-call electrical services, in an amount not to exceed $600,000. The term will be for a 1-year period with four  additional 1-year renewal options.

Funding for video courts capital project

Consider approving and authorizing an increase of $2,250,000 for the New Century Adult Detention Center remodel for video courts capital project bringing the new total project authorization to an amount not to exceed $3,250,000 for design and construction services.

Funding for remodel of wastewater suite

Resolution No. 039-24. Consider adopting Resolution No. 039-24 to amend the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program to include the Sunset Drive Office Building Wastewater Suite Remodel capital project and to authorize the use of Wastewater SRCFP (Sewer Repair and Construction Finance Plan) fund reserves in an amount not to exceed $2,200,000.

RFP No. 2023-047. Consider authorizing a contract amendment to the contract with Turner Construction Company as Construction Manager as constructor for the new Olathe MED-ACT Station 1156 for an amount not to exceed $500,000 for a revised contract amount of $522,000 for early procurement of electrical items.

Contract for Health Services Building project

Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 2024-17, Consider authorizing a contract with McCownGordon Construction, as the Construction Manager as constructor for the Health Services Building project for pre-construction services for an amount not to exceed $150,000.
