Board of County Commissioners Monthly Recap: Jan. 2024

Three county programs developed with federal Coronavirus funds received an additional boost in funding to help qualified community members with affordable housing, child care licensing and rental assistance. On Thursday, Jan. 18, the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved $950,000 in allocations from the interest accrued on the county’s Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The votes were as follows:

Funding for Landlord Incentive Pilot Program

Authorized the allocation of Coronavirus SLFRF received from the United States Department of the Treasury in the amount of $200,000 for the purpose of funding a second round of the Landlord Incentive Pilot Program. Vote: Passed 6-1.

Funding for Childcare Licensing Fees Program

Authorized the allocation of Coronavirus SLFRF received from the United States Department of the Treasury in the amount of $250,000 for the purpose of extending the Childcare Licensing Fees Program. Vote: Passed 5-2.

Funding for Eviction Mediation Pilot Program

Authorized the allocation of Coronavirus SLFRF received from the United States Department of the Treasury in the amount of $500,000 for the purpose of enhancing the Eviction Mediation Pilot Program. Vote: Passed 5-2.

Funding for fire station and aerial fire truck

Accepted and allocated funding in the amount of $11,450,418 from Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America for construction of a fire station within the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and the purchase of an aerial fire truck. Vote: Passed 6-1.

Agreements with Edgerton and De Soto for law enforcement services

In two separate votes, the BOCC unanimously authorized agreements between Johnson County and the cities of Edgerton and De Soto for the provision of law enforcement services in 2024 by the Sheriff’s Office. The agreement with Edgerton was for $538,858.60 and the agreement with De Soto was for $734,580.
