BOCC authorizes funding for Wastewater projects and programs
At the Nov. 10, 2022 BOCC meeting, the Board of County Commissioners voted 6-0 to authorize $3.4 million for four Johnson County Wastewater projects and programs:
Collection System Asset Renewal ($2.15 million)
This project is for the rehabilitation and replacement of sanitary sewer lines and manholes that are found to be defective due to breaks, cracks, excessive root intrusion or age. The funding will be used for evaluation, design or construction, including professional engineering construction inspection services. Wastewater plans to issue bonds to pay for the costs associated with these projects.
Stream Crossing Program ($700,000)
Through this program, Wastewater inspects 600 sanitary sewer stream crossings. This funding will be used for inspection, design and repair of at-risk sanitary sewers to protect against spilling sewage into the streamways. Wastewater plans to issue bonds to pay for the costs associated with this project.
Collection System Flow Monitoring ($370,000)
Wastewater will use this funding to monitor flows in the collection system to determine areas for infiltration/inflow removal, guide rehabilitation and relief efforts, and provide data used by hydraulic models to identify capacity concerns. Wastewater plans to pay for the costs associated with this project using cash funds.
Private Infiltration/Inflow Development for Long Term Capital Improvements ($220,000)
This funding will pay for the planning and development of a voluntary, targeted and proactive Private Infiltration/Inflow remediation program to identify and remove unnecessary storm/rainfall connections from private property. This program is also known as “JoCo Inflow.” Wastewater plans to pay for the costs associated with this project using cash funds.
