Election Office celebrates National Poll Worker Recruitment Day

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission has established Tuesday, Jan. 25 as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. To celebrate, the Election Office is encouraging Johnson County voters to sign up to help their neighbors vote in the August and November elections.

“Election Day wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated team of election workers,” said Johnson County Election Commissioner Fred Sherman. “We received a tremendous response from the community during the presidential election, and we’re hopeful they’ll support us again this year and join our team for the gubernatorial election.”

Election workers are provided training before each election and paid at least $110 for their service on Election Day. They must be residents of Johnson County registered to vote at their current address. Those interested in joining the Election Office’s team for this year’s elections can apply at jocoportal.org/apply.

16-and-17-year-old high school students can also be election workers. Student election worker applications are available on the Election Office’s website. Applications for student election workers must be signed by a teacher, counselor, or administrator.

“Being a part of our Election Day team is a great opportunity for students to serve their community and participate in the voting process,” said Sherman.

Election Day for the general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
