On Oct. 4, Indian Valley Elementary School students in Overland Park will join the more than 250,000 children across the U.S. who participate in the annual Walk and Roll to School Day event.

National Walk and Roll to School Day raises awareness about pedestrian safety, encourages adults to create safe environments, and boosts the amount of physical activity children incorporate into their day.

Additionally, Indian Valley Elementary will recognize “bikers” at this time. Safe Kids Johnson County has donated 50 bike helmets for the students. The helmets will be distributed to those who bike to school and need this important piece of safety equipment.

“We have had many successful partnerships with the Blue Valley School District and look forward to additional collaborations in the future,” says Jill Raiford, Health Educator for the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment.

Indian Valley Elementary’s Physical Education teacher will be blasting KIDZ BOP on the playground as students arrive. K- State Extension will be handing out yogurt parfaits and Bike Walk KC will begin teaching Bicycle Lessons and Safety Training provided by KDOT funds through JCDHE that week.
