The percent of people vaccinated by age in Johnson County decreases as the age groups decrease. As of May 23, 33% of people ages 18 – 29 have been fully vaccinated. That number increases to 37% for the 30 – 39 age group. A new JoCo on the Go podcast and webcast released today includes stories from people in those younger demographics about why they got vaccinated.

Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) reports that overall, 51.4% of eligible persons in Johnson County are at least partially vaccinated and 43.8% of eligible people are fully vaccinated. Current JCDHE vaccination efforts are shown on the COVID-19 dashboard.

JCDHE continues to urge all who are age 12 and older to receive a vaccine during the COVID19 vaccination clinic hours, which includes evening and weekend availability (not the Memorial Day weekend). Walk-in hours are also available to make it more convenient for our residents.

In an effort to bring vaccines to the community, business or organizations can request onsite vaccinations by completing a Community Vaccination Event Request form.

“We need to work together to achieve immunity for our community” said Dr. Sanmi Areola, JCDHE director. “Please come and take advantage of the quick and easy process of getting your free vaccination by making an appointment or walking in.”

The following is Johnson County’s vaccination plan for the week of May 31. This is in

accordance with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Vaccination Plan. 

Eligible persons (age 12 and older) – JCDHE will provide first doses for those eligible

at the Lenexa vaccination site. Appointments at the Lenexa clinic will be 9 a.m.–3 p.m.,

Tuesday and Wednesday (June 1 and 2) and 3 –7 p.m., Thursday (June 3) and 9 a.m. -

12 p.m. Saturday (June 5). 

Walk-in hours are available Tuesday and Wednesday (June 1 and 2) from 9 a.m.–2:30

p.m., Thursday (June 3) from 3–6:30 p.m. and Saturday (June 5) from 9 -11:30 a.m.

• Children age 15 and younger receiving a COVID-19 vaccination must be accompanied by an adult. A parent/guardian is preferable; however, the parent/guardian may designate a non-parent adult to be present at the time of vaccination if the parent/guardian is unavailable. A signed parental consent form is required.

Johnson County hospital systems – AdventHealth, Menorah, Overland Park

Regional, Olathe Health, KU-Med and St. Luke’s Hospital are offering vaccinations.

JCDHE is taking the following actions to ensure vaccination equity: 

Those with transportation needs: JCDHE offers transportation to a vaccine clinic for

those needing it. This service can be requested by calling 913-715-2819.

• Homebound population: JCDHE’s Outreach Nurses offer this service. It can be requested by calling 913-715-2819.
• Vaccinations in community settings: These events are currently being scheduled.
• JCDHE is working with community partners to offer these vaccinations. Additional information will be available as events are scheduled.

JCDHE is automatically scheduling Pfizer second-dose appointments three weeks after the first vaccine and four weeks after the Moderna vaccine for the same day and time. More information is available on our second dose webpage.
