Amy Meeker-Berg, Johnson County Clerk, has certified the total of the 2023 tax roll for Johnson County, Kansas, as $1,727,917,869.58.

This is the amount of ad valorem taxes (taxes based on property value) that shall be collected by all taxing authorities (such as cities, school districts, Johnson County Government and others) in the county for their 2024 budgets.

The tax roll includes taxes on real estate, personal property and state-assessed properties as well as special assessments. Total valuations (not including special assessments) as of October 31, 2023, increased 11.16% from the previous year.

The county clerk’s office is responsible for calculating the annual tax roll and mill levies. These calculations are derived from the final valuation and the ad valorem taxes that the governing body of each taxing authority has certified for its budget.

The county clerk reviews the certified budgets to verify that each fund meets statutory guidelines and sets the mill levy needed to collect that amount of ad valorem taxes.
