Johnson County to request Community Development Block Grants for Olathe public housing unit upgrades

Air conditioning units outside of a home

On or about Aug. 2, Johnson County Community Development will submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the release of Community Development Block Grant funds for Olathe public housing unit upgrades.

The project would involve mechanical system upgrades at 24 public housing units in Olathe through the Olathe Housing Authority. This includes upgrades to HVAC, ducting and water heaters, to avoid costly emergency repairs and improve the livability of the units. The total amount to be requested is estimated at $405,219.53.

The county has re-evaluated the sites and determined that the project will have no significant impact on the environment. Therefore, an Environmental Impact Statement under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 is not required. The county has re-evaluated the impact due to an increase of units in the project.

If you disagree with this determination or wish to comment on the project, you may submit written comments to the Community Development office at the Johnson County Administration Building, 111 S. Cherry St. Suite 2000, Olathe, KS or by email at cdbg@jocogov.org.

All comments received by August 7, 2024 will be considered. Please specify which notice you’re addressing – the request for release of funds or the finding of no significant impact – in your comments.
