K-State Research and Extension hosting Public Garden Tour May 17-18

Greenery and stones at public gardens

Johnson County K-State Research and Extension Office’s Master Gardener Public Garden Tour is set for May 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased online or in-person at the Extension Office, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, Olathe, KS. Proceeds from ticket sales support Extension Master Gardener projects and programs.

The garden tour – hosted by Extension Master Gardeners every other year – will highlight beautiful home gardens in Johnson County while giving residents ideas about how they can design their own gardens.

Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be present at each of the six gardens to provide information and gardening resources. The six gardens are owned by Extension Master Gardeners.

Gardens differ in size, setting and vibe, including a small-scale patio oasis, a whimsical shade garden, and gardens that double as outdoor art galleries. You may begin your tour at any garden.

This year’s tour includes a bonus stop: The Garden Gallery demonstration garden located at the Sunset Drive office building in Olathe. This garden showcases ideas for all four seasons, including a butterfly garden and rain garden.

The Garden Thyme Marketplace is at the Garden Gallery, and where you can purchase handmade garden décor including hand-cast concrete leaves, mosaic mushrooms, garden art poles and more.

The Extension Expo features agents and volunteers from Johnson County Extension, with booths full of resources on home and health care, food and nutrition, gardening, nature, youth development and more!

The Garden Gallery, Garden Thyme Marketplace and Extension Expo are free and open to the public. The six private gardens require a ticket to access. The tour is rain or shine.
