The 2024 Healthy Yards Expo is set for Saturday, April 13 at the Shawnee Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive in Shawnee.

This year is the 12th year of the event, co-sponsored by Johnson County Government and Johnson County K-State Research and Extension Office.

At the event, taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can discover eco-friendly practices for your yard – directly from experts in the field.

Hear from a variety of speakers on topics such as native plants, pollinators, vegetable gardening and landscaping, and visit with K-State Research and Extension Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and local plant societies.

The expo will feature more than 40 vendors promoting eco-friendly products and sharing information about healthy lawns and soil. There will also be a wide selection of native plants for spring garden projects.

The first 100 visitors will receive free native tree seedlings, and free soil tests will be provided to Johnson County residents – bring a soil sample to the event for testing. Additionally, you can register to win door prizes, including rain barrels, compost bins and native plants.

The StoneLion Puppet Theatre will present performances at 10:30 a.m. and noon. Breakfast and lunch will also be available for purchase during the event.
