Johnson County’s annual extravaganza, urging aging adults to Live Well Age Well, takes place Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park.

It marks the return of a public event after no in-person expos in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The expo is also celebrating its 38th anniversary in 2022. Through the years, the annual event for Johnson County’s senior population has had four different names and six different locations in three cities.

Live Well Age Well, the name of the expo for the past five years, is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Activities will include more than 40 informational booths from Johnson County Government, businesses, exhibitors, organizations and other vendors serving aging adults.

Educational sessions, door prizes and bingo also are planned along with health screenings, such as blood pressure checks along with screenings for hearing, mental health wellness and diabetes.

The first 300 attendees will receive an event bag that includes a free pass to the Johnson County Museum. The pass allows entry to the museum the day of the event.  The bag also provides information about Live Well Age Well and sponsors

Johnson County’s annual expo for the senior adult population began in 1984 as Celebrate Age at Mission Mall and was coordinated by the Johnson County Department of Human Services. That name and site continued through 1999.

In 2000, the event was renamed Senior Quest and moved to the Shawnee Civic Center until 2002 and then relocated to the Overland Park Convention Center through 2010.

The 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District began coordination of the event in 2011, calling it Senior Fest and moving the location to the Ritz Charles Conference Center, Overland Park, for the next five years.

With the opening of the Arts and Heritage Center in 2017, the expo was moved to that location along with a name change to Live Well Age Well. The event was hosted at The Marriot, Overland Park, in 2018 and 2019, coming back again the Arts and Heritage Center this year.
