New study calculates New Century AirCenter's economic impact at $1.1 billion

Shovels in the ground with hardhats on top for a ground breaking

New Century AirCenter contributes an annual economic impact of $1.1 billion to the local and regional economy, according to a study conducted by the County Economic Research Institute.

Through strategic investments and professional management, the Johnson County Airport Commission has transformed the airport into a bustling hub of economic activity.

This achievement is not only a testament to the commission's commitment to excellence but also highlights the crucial role airports play in economic development. Airports are not just gateways to the world, they are gateways for our community's prosperity and progress.

The CERI study also found that airport-based businesses have led to the creation of nearly 5,000 jobs. Local businesses have flourished, and new enterprises continue to emerge, driven by the connectivity and opportunities provided by the Johnson County Airport Commission.

From logistic and technology companies, a diverse range of sectors benefit from the airport’s business and development opportunities. The commission’s efforts have bolstered workforce development, further strengthening the community.

"The airport is an incredible asset driving the economic activity for southwest Johnson County," said Bryan Johnson, executive director of the Johnson County Airport Commission. "This $1.1 billion contribution underscores the airport’s success as a job creator and economic engine in connecting our regional partners and enhancing economic opportunities for our businesses and residents alike."

While the recent study accounted for economic activity already in place and operating, it did not consider development currently underway. The commission is seeing exponential growth both around the airports, and in the AirCenter and the East-Side Commerce Center as well.

“We are seeing aviation interest and growth that the Johnson County Airport Commission has not experienced in 20 plus years," said Johnson.

As the Johnson County Airport Commission looks to the future, it remains committed to innovative improvements and strategic initiatives. These efforts will continue to enhance its economic contributions and support the thriving ecosystem surrounding the airports.
