A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here's a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Jan. 30 - Feb. 5: 

Feb. 1 - Art: Clay Creations (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 3 to 7, 10 to 10:45 a.m., $12 per person) - Come get creative and explore clay. Students will get the opportunity to hand-build with clay and make one ceramics piece to be fired. Students will need an adult to attend class with them. Activity number 15967.

Feb. 1 - Art: Acrylic Painting- Beginner Level (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 16 & Older, Tuesdays, 6 to 8:30 p.m., 3 sessions, $60 per person, $66 nonresidents) - Learn tips and techniques to paint with acrylic paints. Students will explore acrylic painting with mini technical studies and one larger painting in this class. No experience needed. Activity number 15982.

Feb. 2 - Games: Virtual Scattergories (Virtual Program, Ages 50 Plus, 10 to 11 a.m., FREE) - Think fast and write quicker in this fun and fast-paced game of alliterative words and categories! Activity number 17002.

Feb. 2 - Games: Bingo - TuTu (Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, Ages 50 Plus, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., $5 per person, $6 nonresidents) - BINGO! Delight in food, prizes, fun and 12 games of bingo. Variety of prizes awarded including gift certificates. Please pre-register at least one week in advance. Payment is required at time of registration. For the enjoyment of all participants, children are not permitted to attend 50 Plus Bingos. Feb. 2 - Animal Tales: Groundhog Day (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 2-6 with adult, 10:30 - 11 a.m., $3 per person) - Join a park naturalist for animal stories and surprises geared for preschool age children. Come listen, learn, and meet a special animal friend every time. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Program held indoors. Feb. 2 session, activity number 16416, Feb. 16 session - S is for Snake, activity number 16423. 

Feb. 3 - Little Critter’s Day Out: Fairytales & Fables (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 3 to 5, 9 a.m. to noon, $19 per person, $21 nonresidents) - Your Little Critter will enjoy three hours of fun and education once a month as you enjoy some personal time! Activities will vary but we will have an adventure, eat a snack, make a craft, play games, and see an animal visitor each day. Dress for the weather. Children must be potty trained. Feb. 3 - Cooking: Copy-Cat Restaurant Meals Demo - Olive Garden™ (Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Ages 50 Plus, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., $25 per person, $28 nonresidents) - Watch our instructor, Misty Town, demonstrate the ease of copying the popular restaurant recipe, Olive Garden's - Zuppa Toscana Soup. Enjoy samples and take home the recipes. Activity number 16937.

Feb. 4 - Museum: Kids' Day Out (Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 6 to 10, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $35 per person) - Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. We are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you may drop off and pick up at any time. Feb. 4 - Yoga: Rise and Shine Yoga (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 14 & Older, Fridays, 8 to 9 a.m., 4 sessions, $32 per person, $35 nonresidents) - Start your day with an invigorating yoga practice at Ernie Miller Nature Center. This is yoga for anybody. All are welcome, no experience necessary! This class will focus on gentle stretching, serenity, and rejuvenation, and will be tailored to individual abilities. Please bring your mat to class. Instructor is Certified Yoga Teacher Elizabeth Morris. Activity number 15803. 

Feb. 4 - Crafts: CR-afternoon (Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, Ages 5 to 12 with an adult, 1 to 4 p.m., $7 per person, $8 nonresidents) - Love to create trendy DIY crafts? We’ll have a variety of craft projects for your group to choose from. Staff will be available to assist with instruction and material distribution. Stop in anytime between 1 and 4 pm. Feb. 4 - Youth: Kids' Night Out (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 6 to 12, 6 to 9 p.m., $14 per person, $16 nonresidents) - Participants will enjoy playing life-sized Connect 4®, Family Feud™, Twister™ and more! Learn a new table game you have never played before. Dinner with pizza and ice cream is included. Activity number 17090.

Feb. 5 - Art: Drawing (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 10 to 15, Saturdays, 10 a.m. to Noon., 2 sessions, $40 per person, $45 nonresidents) - Learn tips and techniques of how to draw. Students will explore drawing animals, objects, and more all while learning the basics of line, shape, perspective, and shading. No experience needed. Activity number 15990.

Feb. 5 - Art: Ceramics (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 8 to 12, Saturdays, 1 to 3 p.m., 2 sessions, $45 per person, $50 nonresidents) - Students will get the opportunity to hand-build with clay, learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel, and make ceramic pieces to fire and glaze.
