At 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, the Board of County Commissioners will receive information on utility-scale solar regulations from county staff and outside consultants during a Committee of the Whole meeting. This event follows the regular BOCC and agenda review sessions held earlier in the day.

On Dec. 14, the Johnson County Planning Commission approved the recommendation of proposed changes to the Johnson County Rural Comprehensive Plan and Johnson County Zoning and Subdivision Regulations related to the regulation of utility-scale solar facilities.

This topic was introduced to the BOCC during a previous Committee of the Whole meeting in March 2021. Since that time, county planning staff and the Planning Commission have been studying this topic in preparation for the recommendation.

The Committee of the Whole meeting will provide an opportunity to review the Planning Commission recommendations in detail with the BOCC. Committees of the Whole meetings are informational only and do not include a vote or policy decision.

Public comment is not included as part of these meetings, but will be accepted at a later public hearing. Plans are underway for a public hearing on this topic.
