CHAMPSS: Seniors Meal Plan
The Johnson County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) nutrition program is pleased to offer a dining opportunity called CHAMPSS. CHAMPSS is a senior dining program for adults 60 years or older and their spouses at participating Hy-Vee grocery stores in Johnson County.
CHAMPSS, Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors, is offered through the Older Americans Act, a federally funded program, and through the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging nutrition program.
CHAMPSS Enrollment
Effective September 3, 2024, due to a significant increase in demand for the CHAMPSS program and the current limitations in federal funding under the Older Americans Act, we regret to announce a temporary suspension of new enrollments into the CHAMPSS program. Services for those currently enrolled will continue uninterrupted.
Residents interested in the CHAMPSS program can complete an interest form and will be contacted once their name reaches the top of the waiting list.
CHAMPSS Updates
Due to the increased need and a high influx of enrollments in our CHAMPSS program, we are implementing a new policy regarding participant eligibility. Effective July 17, 2024, we will no longer accept new enrollments from residents outside Johnson County, KS. Residents currently enrolled in the CHAMPSS program but residing outside of Johnson County will be grandfathered into the program. These participants can continue to enjoy the benefits of CHAMPSS as long as they complete their annual registration form without interruption and are actively using the program.
Beginning October 1st, 2024, all CHAMPSS participants cards will be preloaded with 8 monthly meals instead of the current 31 meals. This adjustment will allow participants to receive up to two meals per week through the program.
If you have any questions, please call the CHAMPSS information line at 913-715-8894.
How do I donate to the CHAMPSS program?
CHAMPSS relies on grants and donations to administer the program. CHAMPSS has a suggested donation of $5.00 per meal; however, no one is denied a meal due to the inability to pay. The full cost of the meal is $7.00.
There are many ways to make donations to CHAMPSS:
- Submit a payment with a check by mail: 11811 S Sunset Dr., Suite 1300, Olathe, KS 66061
- Make a credit card donation online.
- Make a credit card donation over the phone, 913-715-8811.
- Come into the office: 11811 S Sunset Dr., Suite 1300, Olathe, KS 66061.
Donation reminders including the CHAMPSS participant's meal usage are mailed monthly in a marked CHAMPSS envelope. Enclosed with the donation reminder is a return envelope for mail in donations if participants prefer to donate by check.
How many meals can participants access through CHAMPSS each month?
Starting October 1, 2024, CHAMPSS will load eight meals onto each participant's meal card monthly. These meals can be utilized for breakfast, lunch, or dinner any day of the week.
Participants in CHAMPSS cannot request or order additional meals to be added to their cards.
There is no obligation to use all eight meals each month, as any unused meals will be removed at the end of the month. Additionally, CHAMPSS participants will receive a reminder about their meal usage and a donation notification for the following month.
