We recognize that the death of a loved one is extremely difficult. There is no “right way” to grieve, and everyone processes their grief differently. It is almost always helpful to talk with someone about the intense grief reactions that follow the loss of a loved one, whether it is with other family members, friends, clergy or a local grief support group. Paying for funeral expenses can be a large burden on families. The MEO, as a government entity, cannot refer families to funeral homes. We encourage you to consult with family and friends for recommendations. Information regarding pricing for local funeral services can be found on the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Greater Kansas City website. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred as the result of COVID-related deaths. Additional information can be obtained on the website or by calling 1-844-684-6333 (TYY: 1-800-462-7585).
