AOAS - Treatment Rules & Expectations
- Attend all groups, as scheduled, as designated by your Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counselor. Absences must be approved in advance. A total of three absences from group and/or individual without advance notice or failure to complete the required number of group hours as agreed upon with your counselor may result in unsuccessful discharge from treatment.
- Participate in group discussions and activities. Stay focused on the group topic and your treatment goals.
- Complete program assignments in a timely manner.
- Turn off your cell phones during group. You are not allowed to make or receive calls, send or receive text messages, or play games.
- Abstain from alcohol and other drug use. Demonstrate abstinence by completing scheduled drug/alcohol testing.
- Respect confidentiality. Information disclosed in group is private and should not be shared with anyone outside the group. The identity of group members is also confidential.
- Avoid drug glorification and “war stories.”
- Refrain from making rude or sexual comments and threats of any kind. Violence is not tolerated.
Family participation
- An adult family member is encouraged to attend each Family Group session as scheduled and any family meetings arranged by the counselor.
- The family is responsible for arranging the client’s transportation to and from counseling sessions and required drug/alcohol testing appointments.
- A parent/guardian is responsible for making payments toward the cost of services, in accordance with the payment schedule developed at the time of intake.
- The family is urged to maintain a drug and alcohol-free household while their child is in treatment and continuing care.
- Family members are encouraged to communicate concerns and relevant information to their assigned counselor.
Alcohol or drug intoxication
Any client suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be asked to leave group.
Drug testing policy
All clients are expected to participate in drug testing while in outpatient treatment and continuing care. Testing will be arranged by the client’s treatment counselor or probation officer. Clients will be assigned a pin number and required to call the phone number (816-822-4656) daily to find out if their pin number is being tested that day.
Testing is conducted by a professional laboratory service at the locations listed below and costs the client up to $17 for standard testing, unless special testing is requested. All positive tests, after the second week of treatment, must be confirmed by GC/MS analysis if there are any questions about the results and/or if requested by the court. Failure to show for a required test or having a diluted test result may be treated as a positive test.
