COVID-19 related service updates

For service updates related to COVID-19, please check our homepage for the most up-to-date information. While the process for starting services is similar to what is listed below, it may be conducted by video or phone.

Starting services at Johnson County Mental Health Center

The first step in accessing services is to use our same day, walk-in hours, which we call Open Access. You will meet with a member of our staff who will listen to you and assess your individual needs. For about half of those who walk in, the process ends here with a connection to a provider in the community. There is no charge for the conversation that occurs in this step of Open Access.

The other half of those who use Open Access move on to the next step, which would be to receive a diagnostic assessment with a licensed mental health clinician. Based on that assessment, we will either connect you with a provider at the Mental Health Center or with one in the community. Before this assessment, you will talk with another staff member about your financial responsibility and the application for reduced fees. Payment for the assessment is not due at the time of service.

Open Access hours start at 9 a.m. Monday – Friday. We recommend arriving earlier in the day, because it is a walk-in service. No matter what time you arrive, you will be able to speak with a mental health professional.
