Training classes offered by MED-ACT help residents to assist when an emergency strikes.

Group Leadership

MED-ACT uses a collaborative leadership structure to incorporate field input on a variety of management issues. Field personnel are encouraged to participate in any of these venues. Field input is an essential part of MED-ACT’s approach, helping to assure that our actions are coordinated and grounded.

Local Emergency Planning Committee

The LEPC service area spans eight counties in the Greater Kansas City region: Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte in Kansas; and Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray in Missouri.

Web Emergency Operations Center

Johnson County Emergency Management maintains an online incident management system that increases the ability to coordinate disaster response and recovery with city, county, state and federal disaster response partners.

Emergency Services staff and volunteers are available for presentations to: Businesses, homes associations, boy and girl scout meetings, etc. We also do tours of the Emergency Operations Center for interested groups.

The County's Emergency Operations Plan defines the policies, coordination, and roles and responsibilities required to meet the needs generated by a disaster in Johnson County.

What To Do When You Hear a Siren

If the outdoor warning system is heard at anytime other than scheduled test days, seek shelter and tune in to local radio, television, or your NOAA weather radio for instructions and information.

Outdoor Warning Sirens

Johnson County’s outdoor warning system consists of 190 sirens placed strategically throughout the county as an early warning device to alert citizens to take shelter and seek additional information.
