About Health & Environment
The Johnson County Health Department was established in 1943 and began with a Health Officer on loan from the United States Public Health Service and five employees. Johnson County’s population was 33,327 (1940). Today, the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment consists of nine divisions with approximately 170 staff in six locations and serves a population of over 600,000 residents.
