Solid Waste Management Plan
The Solid Waste Management Plan is a long-term planning document that is created by Environmental Division staff along with input from the Solid Waste Management Committee, industry professionals, community groups, and public comments. Solid Waste Management Committee
The Solid Waste Management Committee is responsible for the preparation and oversight of a Solid Waste Management Plan and is made up of city representatives and representatives from industry and community groups.

Disposal Facilities
This page features information on the solid waste disposal facilities located within Johnson County. This includes a landfill, construction and demolition landfills, transfer stations, and composting facilities. Johnson County Department of Health and Environment regulates all of these facilities.
Residential Systems
Approximately 23% of all homes in the United States are served by private sewage treatment systems. There are approximately 9,000 private sewage treatment systems in Johnson County.
Resales
A resale inspection is a procedure performed by a JCDHE Environmental Health Specialist to determine the functional status of a private sewage treatment system.
Pumper Installer Lists
JCDHE licenses installers and designers of private sewage treatment systems regulated under the Johnson County Environmental Sanitary Code, as well as the sanitary disposal contractors, also known as pumpers, who clean the treatment systems and transport the sewage to the disposal site.
Failing Systems
A failing system is any private sewage treatment system which, for any reason, does not function as designed or as prescribed by the Johnson County Environmental Sanitary Code.
Decommissioning Tanks
Any septic tank that is not being used must have the sewage removed by a licensed sanitary disposal contractor.
