The call to optimize brain health is now a global priority. Brain health definitions range in scope from broad to narrow and may focus on cognition or encompass broader core components such as cerebral, mental and social domains.

Open enrollment involves key parts to Medicare

During open enrollment (Oct. 15-Dec. 7), first-time Medicare enrollees may choose between original Medicare – which includes Part A (hospital), Part B (medical) and Part D (prescription drug) insurance. Seniors who already have Medicare can also change plans.

Johnson County’s Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas program now is technically operating as a subgrantee as part of the East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging in Ottawa.

Cover Story: Open enrollment keeps counselors busy

She was among four experienced, certified counselors to provide Medicare 101 basics at the Johnson County Central Resource Library in Overland Park. Sponsored by the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging, 26 people signed up for the class ahead of time. More than 50 attended the presentation.

COA meetings

The Commission on Aging will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, and at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the Johnson County Sunset Drive Office Building, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe.
