County purchases mobile COVID testing unit

The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners has authorized the purchase of its first mobile clinic. Johnson County Department of Health and Environment received a state grant for the purchase.
JCDHE hopes to have the mobile clinic operating as soon as possible, visiting areas of the community for COVID testing and, eventually, COVID vaccine distribution. However, these mobile units are in high demand across the country which could affect the delivery date.
“The targeted population to be served by the mobile unit is the undertested/underserved segment of the population who have many barriers to commuting to a clinic or testing event,” said Dr. Sanmi Areola, director of JCDHE.
JCDHE will retain the mobile clinic at the end of the grant and will utilize it for numerous Public Health outreach activities, such as providing immunizations and STD screenings in the community, Areola noted.
