Renovations at the Shawnee Mission Park Marina began in November, and Johnson County Park and Recreation District officials are striving for a Memorial Day Weekend opening, although the project has experienced delays due to spring rains.

The project involves renovation of the existing marina building, including: addition of a new ticketing area; construction of a new storage facility to store life jackets and paddles, as well as boats in the off-season; accessibility upgrades to the marina dock; and upgrades and relocation of restrooms.

A new accessible kayak and canoe launch to the east will allow patrons of all abilities to launch their vessels by themselves.
