Travel fun ends year, starts 2024
Squeeze in some more fun before 2023 is out with Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Travel!
Here are a few opportunities to join in on the fun:
- Day Travel - Basketball & Battlefields - Lawrence. Enjoy a step-on guide portraying James Naismith and discover notable landmarks and details of Quantrill’s Raid. 8:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 8:45 a.m. $99, which includes lunch
- Virtual Program - Open Road Series: Mark Twain and Hannibal, Mo. Staff at the Hannibal, Mo. Convention and Visitors Bureau will discuss popular attractions, historical events and Mark Twain. 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 Free
- Lunch & Learn - History of Harmonizing: Swing Shift Quartet Learn about quartet music and its history from Kansas City’s Swing Shift quartet group performing holiday favorites. Noon Thursday, Dec. 21, at the Roeland Park Community Center $29 residents/$32 nonresidents
Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, for 2024 trips and programs for January to April.
Here is a sneak peek of the first of the new year’s offerings:
- Day Travel - You’re the Next Contestant - Overland Park. Coming in January. Travelers will participate as contestants in games similar to popular television game shows.
- Day Travel - Treasures Abound - Kansas City, Mo. Also coming in January. Travel to Marble Moon Co. and watch glassmakers mold colorful marbles. After, visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum.
- Day Travel - Under the Sea - Kansas City, Mo. Coming in February. Visit Sea Life Aquarium and enjoy a fudge-making demonstration at Crown Center.
